Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This by-law specifies three categories of imported goods that receive specific customs duty treatment under Schedule 4 of the Customs Tariff Act 1995:

Microforms – documents substantially reduced in size from their original format (such as microfiche or microfilm)
Demonstrational materials – patterns, models, and wall charts used exclusively for demonstration or teaching purposes
Film – photographic or cinematographic film

By "prescribing" these items, the by-law determines the import tax (customs duty) that applies when these goods enter Australia. This ensures importers and customs officials classify these items consistently for tariff purposes.

Why it matters: Importers of these goods need to know this classification to calculate costs and comply with customs requirements. The "exclusively for demonstrational purposes" condition means demonstrational items must be used only for teaching or display—not for general sale or commercial use—to qualify under this provision.
