Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This document is a commencement proclamation — a formal announcement that activates part of a law previously passed by Parliament.

What it does:

Fixes 27 March 2014 as the day when Schedule 1 of the Customs Amendment (Anti-Dumping Commission Transfer) Act 2013 comes into force (starts being legally effective)
Signed by the Governor-General on 13 March 2014, acting on the advice of the Federal Executive Council (the Governor-General's advisory council of senior ministers)

Why this matters: When Parliament passes an Act, the government sometimes needs time to prepare before it takes effect. Rather than starting automatically, these laws often wait for a proclamation like this one to set the exact start date. This particular proclamation triggers the transfer of the Anti-Dumping Commission (the body that investigates unfairly cheap imports) from the Customs portfolio to the Industry portfolio.
