Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This regulation officially lists Al-Murabitun as a terrorist organisation under Australian law.

What it does:

Adds Al-Murabitun (also known as al-Murabitoun or the Sentinels) to the official list of banned terrorist groups under the Criminal Code.
Once listed, it becomes a serious criminal offense to:
- Be a member of the organisation
- Train with or receive training from them
- Provide or collect funds for them
- Associate with members in certain circumstances

Why it matters: The listing triggers Australia's terrorism offenses (in Division 102 of the Criminal Code), allowing law enforcement to prosecute people connected to this group. This regulation gives legal effect to the government's decision to ban Al-Murabitun, which was an Islamist militant group active in North Africa.
