Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This document is a commencement proclamation, not the actual legislation. It is a formal announcement by the Governor-General stating that Schedule 1 of the Crimes Amendment (Forensic Procedures) Act 2001 (except for items 2 and 3) will come into force on 20 June 2001.

What this means:

It tells government agencies, police, and courts when the new forensic procedures laws start operating
It does not contain any rules about DNA testing, fingerprints, or police powers
Those rules are contained in the actual Act being proclaimed, not in this notice
