Courts Legislation Amendment (Judicial Complaints) Commencement Proclamation 2013

This document is a formal commencement proclamation — a legal instrument that switches on part of an existing law on a specific date.

What it does:

Activates Schedule 1 of the Courts Legislation Amendment (Judicial Complaints) Act 2012
Sets the start date as 12 April 2013

Why it matters: The 2012 Act reformed how complaints against federal judges are handled, but those new rules weren't operational yet. This proclamation, signed by the Administrator (acting for the Governor-General), triggered the start of the new judicial complaints system. From 12 April 2013 onwards, the updated procedures for handling misconduct complaints against judges became legally active.
