68 Health assessment
(1) The assessment under section 67 of a detainee’s physical and mental
health needs and risks must be made within 24 hours after the
detainee’s admission.
(2) The health assessment must involve—
(a) an initial assessment by a nurse and a review of the nurse’s
assessment by a doctor appointed under section 21 (Doctors—
health service appointments); or
(b) an assessment by a doctor appointed under section 21
(Doctors—health service appointments).
(3) The health assessment must include an assessment of the detainee’s
risk of self-harm.
Note 1 The detainee’s case management plan must also address the detainee’s
health condition, any risk of self-harm and any treatment regime
(see s 78).
Note 2 The Mental Health Act 2015 also includes provision for assessment
orders, and emergency detention and care, under that Act.
