197 Presiding officer may require information and documents
(1) For an inquiry, the presiding officer may, by written notice given to a
person, require the person—
(a) to provide stated information to the presiding officer relevant to
the inquiry; or
(b) to produce to the presiding officer a stated document or thing
relevant to the inquiry.
(2) This section does not require a person to give information, or produce
a document or other thing, to the presiding officer if the Minister
certifies in writing that giving the information, or producing the
document or other thing—
(a) may endanger a detainee or anyone else; or
(b) is contrary to the public interest.
Note The Legislation Act, s 170 and s 171 deal with the application of the
privilege against self-incrimination and client legal privilege.
