154 Meaning of privilege
A privilege, in relation to a detainee—
(a) is any amenity, facility or opportunity the detainee may have the
benefit of in detention; but
(b) does not include anything that is, for this chapter, an entitlement
for the detainee.
Examples of privileges
1 using common areas at a correctional centre for mixing with other detainees
2 participating in activities other than those forming part of a detainee’s case
management plan
3 using phones, email or the internet other than for entitled usage
4 buying non-essential goods from money held in trust for a detainee
5 using a radio, television, CD or DVD player or other electronic equipment for
recreational purposes
6 pursuing hobbies and crafts
7 keeping personal property in a cell
