#### 58 Rules of procedure and evidence 58 Rules of procedure and evidence (cf [Coroners Act 1980](/view/html/repealed/current/act-1980-027), s 33) > > (1) A coroner in coronial proceedings is not bound to observe the rules of procedure and evidence that are applicable to proceedings before a court of law. > > > (2) Except as otherwise provided by this Act, a witness in coronial proceedings who is a natural person cannot be compelled to answer any question or produce any document that might tend— > > > > > (a) to incriminate the witness for an offence against or arising under an Australian law or a law of a foreign country, or > > > > > (b) to make the witness liable to a civil penalty.
