Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This document is a formal commencement proclamation signed by the Governor-General. It simply sets the date—19 December 2005—when Schedule 1 of the Copyright Amendment (Film Directors' Rights) Act 2005 comes into force (i.e., becomes legally active).

While this proclamation itself is just an administrative "start button," it activates the main Act, which:

Gives film directors moral rights (the right to be credited and to prevent harmful changes to their work)
Ensures directors share in copyright royalties when films are copied or communicated to the public

In short: this legal notice tells us exactly when film directors started receiving these specific protections under Australian law.
