Plain English Summary

3/10 complexity

This instrument replaces the 2008 consumer product safety standard for vehicle support stands with Australian Standard AS 2538:2016 as varied, and requires that, after a 24‑month transitional period, vehicle support stands with a nominated capacity of 1,500 kg or less meet that standard (s7, s8, s5). During the transitional period manufacturers, importers and retailers may comply with either the old 2008 standard or the varied AS; after that only the varied AS applies (s6(1)). Businesses may need to obtain the AS and adapt design, labelling and testing (s5 note, s8).
