144 Meaning of inquiry notice inquiry notice means a notice by a police officer requiring a financial institution to give the officer stated information in relation to— (a) an account with the institution (including whether an account has existed or does exist); or (b) a transaction (other than in relation to an account) conducted, or proposed to be conducted, by or with the institution (including whether a transaction has been conducted). Note 1 Account includes a safe-deposit box (see dict, def account). Note 2 It is an offence to contravene an inquiry notice, to give false or misleading information in purported compliance with an inquiry notice, or to disclose the existence or operation of the notice (see div 12.6).
