Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This instrument sets 1 July 2011 as the official start date for rules implementing a social security agreement between Australia and the Czech Republic.

What this does: It is a "commencement instrument"—a short legal document that acts like a switch. It turns on Schedule 2 of the Social Security (International Agreements) Act 1999 Amendment Regulations 2010 (No. 2) on the specified date.

Why it matters: The underlying agreement helps people who have lived or worked in both countries to claim retirement pensions and social security benefits. It ensures you don't lose entitlements simply because you split your working life between Australia and the Czech Republic. Without this instrument fixing the commencement date, those international arrangements could not take legal effect.
