Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This instrument sets 1 October 2010 as the date when Schedule 1 of the Social Security (International Agreements) Act 1999 Amendment Regulations 2010 (No. 1) comes into force (starts operating).

What this means:

It activates regulations that implement a social security agreement between Australia and Poland.
Who it affects: People who have lived or worked in both Australia and Poland, particularly those claiming age pensions or disability support pensions. It allows them to combine (aggregate) their periods of residence in both countries to meet eligibility requirements.
Why it matters: Without this commencement date, the regulations implementing the bilateral agreement would not take effect, potentially leaving people unable to access portable pensions or claim benefits based on their combined work history in both nations.
