Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This is a formal commencement proclamation that activates specific provisions of the Combating the Financing of People Smuggling and Other Measures Act 2011.

What it does:

Sets 1 November 2011 as the date when items 1 to 11 of Schedule 1 to the Act come into force (become legally operative).

Why it matters: Many Acts require this formal step—known as 'proclamation'—before they actually become law. This document performs that function for the first 11 items in Schedule 1, meaning those specific provisions (likely covering financing offences or related measures) took effect on that date rather than immediately upon the Act receiving Royal Assent.

Who made it: The Governor-General, acting on the advice of the Federal Executive Council, exercising powers granted by the Act itself.
