Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This short 1932 law ensures that money collected from ships paying colonial light dues (fees for using lighthouses in British territories) gets sent to the United Kingdom government.

What it does:

Takes the cash: Any money Australia collects under the related Colonial Light Dues Collection Act 1932 must be handed over to the UK.
Pays the bill: The money comes out of Australia's Consolidated Revenue Fund (the government's main bank account), which this law formally sets aside for this purpose.

Why it matters: Back in 1932, Australia was still financially entangled with Britain. Even though we were self-governing, maintaining colonial lighthouses was a shared imperial responsibility. This law makes sure Australia didn't pocket the lighthouse fees that technically belonged to the British government.
