Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This determination sets the fees for using port facilities at Cocos (Keeling) Islands, an Australian external territory in the Indian Ocean.

What it does:

Establishes charges for private vessels using the island's yacht moorings
Daily mooring fee: $10
Weekly mooring fee: $50
Requires private vessels larger than 150 Gross Registered Tonnage (GRT — a measure of ship size/cargo capacity) to use pilotage services (hiring a local maritime expert to guide the vessel)

Who it affects:

Private boat owners and operators visiting or staying at Cocos (Keeling) Islands
Operators of larger vessels (over 150 GRT) who must arrange for pilotage

Why it matters: The fees ensure that users of these remote harbour facilities contribute to their maintenance and operation. The pilotage requirement ensures larger vessels navigate safely in the territory's waters.
