Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This law requires owners of coal mines taken under Commonwealth control during World War II to surrender any extra profits earned while the government managed their operations. It compares profits in the period of government control with the equivalent pre-control period and directs the owner to pay any excess to the Commissioner. The aim is to prevent private windfalls from wartime coordination of coal production and ensure wartime gains go to the public.
