sec.228 Voting
The right to vote attaches to membership and not shareholding. Except as provided in subsections (3) and (4) , each member has only one vote at a meeting of the co-operative. If its rules so provide, a member of a co-operative group may have the number of votes (up to 5) at a general meeting that is stated in the rules. If the rules so provide, the chairperson has a second vote at a board meeting or general meeting. In the case of joint membership— the joint members have only one vote between them; and that vote may be exercised (subject to the grant of a proxy or power of attorney) only by the joint member decided under the rules. In the case of shares held jointly by 2 or more members otherwise than by virtue of joint membership, each member holding the shares is entitled to vote in accordance with this section. See section 233 for the effect on a member’s right to vote where a non-member has a relevant interest in a share held by the member or in the member’s right to vote.
