#### 514 False or misleading documents 514 False or misleading documents > > (1) A person must not give to the Registrar or an inspector a document containing information the person knows is false or misleading in a material particular. > > > > Maximum penalty—$12,000 or imprisonment for 1 year, or both. > > > (2) Subsection (1) does not apply to a person who, when giving the document— > > > > > (a) tells the Registrar or inspector, to the best of the person’s ability, how it is false, misleading or incomplete; and > > > > > (b) if the person has, or can reasonably get, the correct information—gives the correct information to the Registrar or inspector. > > > (3) It is sufficient for a complaint against a person for an offence against subsection (1) to state the document was false, misleading or incomplete to the person’s knowledge without stating which.
