#### 231 Control of right to vote 231 Control of right to vote > > (1) A person must not directly or indirectly control the exercise of the right to vote of a member. > > > > Maximum penalty—$6,000 or imprisonment for 6 months, or both. > > > (2) If a person controls the exercise of the right of a member to vote at a meeting of a co-operative— > > > > > (a) the vote of the member is invalid; and > > > > > (b) if the person is a member—the vote of the person is invalid. > > > (3) Nothing in this section prevents— > > > > > (a) the exercise of a vote by means of a proxy or power of attorney; or > > > > > (b) a director controlling the vote of a corporate member; or > > > > > (c) an agreed purchaser controlling a member’s vote pending settlement.
