Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This Order scraps an old aviation safety rule about aircraft tyres.

What it does

Repeals Civil Aviation Order 103.8: This eliminates a previous technical standard that specified requirements for aircraft tyres.
Protects existing installations: If tyres were already installed on an aircraft before this Order took effect, and they met the old standard, they remain legally approved under the new system (Regulation 21.305 of the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations 1998). This is called a "saving provision" — it "saves" existing compliant installations from becoming illegal overnight.

Who it affects

Aircraft owners and operators with tyres installed under the old rules
Maintenance providers who service aircraft tyres

Why it matters It cleans up the rulebook by removing an outdated Civil Aviation Order (CAO) while ensuring that aircraft with compliant tyres don't need immediate replacement or re-certification.
