Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This instrument repeals (cancels) Civil Aviation Order 103.16, removing an older set of aviation safety rules from the books.

However, it includes a saving provision to protect existing equipment. If a hand portable fire extinguisher was already installed on an aircraft as part of its life-saving equipment before this Order took effect, that extinguisher must still meet the technical standards from the repealed Order. This ensures aircraft don't suddenly become non-compliant simply because the old rules were deleted.

Who this affects: Aircraft owners, operators, and maintenance organisations responsible for fire safety equipment on aircraft.

Why it matters: It removes outdated regulatory text while ensuring that existing fire extinguishers continue to meet recognised safety standards.
