Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This instrument repeals (cancels) an old aviation safety rule called Civil Aviation Order 103.10, which previously set standards for passenger seats on aircraft. Made by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA — the government body that oversees aviation safety) in 2007, it takes effect the day after registration.

The order includes a saving provision (a clause protecting existing arrangements): if an aircraft already had passenger seats installed that met the old standards before this change took effect, those seats are automatically considered approved under the current regulations (specifically regulation 21.305 of the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations 1998). This means airlines and aircraft owners don't need to replace existing compliant seats immediately just because the old rule was removed.
