Plain English Summary

3/10 complexity

This proclamation revokes an earlier one and declares the Territory of Christmas Island a "mineral field", bringing the island within the scope of the Mining Act 1978 (WA)(CI). It takes effect the day after registration on the Federal Register of Legislation.

It does not itself set fees or conditions; instead it enables the Mining Act’s licensing, regulatory and compliance rules to apply, affecting businesses that pursue exploration or mining and the agencies that must administer those rules.
