> > (1) This Division has effect in addition to and does not derogate from the [Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998](/view/html/inforce/current/act-1998-157).

> > (2) In particular, and without limiting subsection (1), nothing in this Division limits the powers conferred under section 39, 43 or 44 or Chapter 15 of the [Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998](/view/html/inforce/current/act-1998-157).

> > (3) Before taking action under section 22 in relation to a person to whom this Division applies, a police officer is to consider whether it would be more appropriate to take action under the [Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998](/view/html/inforce/current/act-1998-157) to best meet the needs of the person.

> > (4) Section 27 (Mandatory reporting) of the [Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998](/view/html/inforce/current/act-1998-157) applies to a police officer while exercising functions under this Division.
