259 Obligations on youth detention officers before strip searches (1) This section applies if a youth detention officer proposes to strip search a young detainee. (2) The youth detention officer must tell the young detainee— (a) whether the young detainee will be required to remove clothing during the search; and (b) if the young detainee will be required to remove clothing, why the removal is necessary. (3) If the young detainee asks why the search is being conducted in a particular way, the youth detention officer must tell the young detainee the reasons. (4) The youth detention officer must ask for the young detainee’s cooperation for the search.
