Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

These regulations scrap old rules about collecting child support from overseas.

Specifically, they repeal (cancel) the Child Support (Registration and Collection) (Overseas-related Maintenance Obligations) Regulations 2000.

What this means:

Once these regulations start (triggered by the commencement of Part 1 of Schedule 2 to the Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs Legislation Amendment (Child Support Reform Consolidation and Other Measures) Act 2007), the 2000 Regulations cease to exist.
This is housekeeping — removing outdated rules as part of broader child support law reforms.
If you were covered by the 2000 Regulations (for example, if you pay or receive child support involving someone overseas), the new consolidation Act will provide the updated framework instead.

Who it affects: People with overseas child support arrangements previously governed by the 2000 Regulations, though the practical effect depends on the replacement provisions in the consolidating legislation.
