Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This short legal instrument allows the child support agency to share information with the banking regulator.

What it does It officially adds the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority Act 1998 (APRA Act) to a list of "designated program Acts" under child support law. This permits the Child Support Registrar to disclose protected information to APRA when trying to locate parents who owe child support or to verify their financial circumstances.

Why it matters APRA supervises banks and financial institutions. By allowing information sharing between the child support agency and APRA, the government can better track down parents who hide assets or income in the financial system, helping to enforce child support payments for families.

Who it affects Primarily affects separated parents with child support debts (as their information may be disclosed to APRA) and the two agencies involved in the data exchange.
