Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What it does: This regulation removes (repeals) the Child Care (Transitional) Regulations 1998 from Australian law.

Why it exists: The 1998 Regulations were temporary "transitional" rules created to help child care providers move from old laws to new ones when the Child Care Legislation Amendment Act 1998 came into effect. By 2009, that transition was long complete, making these temporary rules obsolete.

Who it affects: Child care centres and providers. However, since these were interim rules that applied during a system changeover more than a decade earlier, this repeal is largely housekeeping—cleaning up outdated legislation that no longer serves a practical purpose.

Why it matters: It tidies up the statute book by removing "zombie laws" that remain on the books but aren't actively used. This makes the law clearer and easier to navigate for operators and regulators alike.
