Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This regulation sets the exact rate for a levy charged on cattle exported from Australia.

What it does:

Fixes the export charge at $0.0027 (27 hundredths of a cent) per unit of cattle exported
This activates the charging mechanism in the Cattle Export Charge Act 1990 by setting the specific dollar amount referenced in that Act

Who it affects:

Live cattle exporters, who must pay this charge to the Commonwealth

Why it matters: The money collected funds research and development in the meat and livestock industry, administered by the Australian Meat and Live-stock Research and Development Corporation. The parent Act created the charging system but left the rate to be set by regulation—this document sets that rate, determining exactly how much exporters pay to support industry R&D.
