Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This instrument updates Australia's airspace rules by making three technical changes to CASA OAR 173/10:

1. Expanding Class A Airspace southward The southern boundary of a high-level controlled airspace zone (Melbourne FIR CTA A2) is moved from 65° South to 80° South latitude. Class A airspace is strictly controlled airspace where air traffic control manages all flights and specific rules apply.

2. Adding Broome as a controlled aerodrome Broome Airport (YBRM) in Western Australia is added to the list of controlled aerodromes — airports with active air traffic control towers and specific procedures for takeoffs and landings.

3. Adding Karratha as a controlled aerodrome Karratha Airport (YPKA) in Western Australia is also added to the controlled aerodromes list.

These changes ensure the official airspace maps reflect current operational requirements and expand controlled air services to these regional Western Australian airports.
