Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this does: Gives two specific pilots special permission to perform acrobatic stunts at night during the 2011 Avalon Air Show.

Who it affects: Only two individual pilots:

Robert Jay Carlton — flying a H101 Salto jet-powered glider (US registration N-101AZ)
Kent Pietsch — flying an Interstate S1A Cadet aeroplane (US registration N-37361)

Why it matters: Normally, Australian aviation law (Civil Aviation Regulations 1988) bans acrobatic flying at night for safety reasons. This exemption lets these two pilots ignore that ban for the air show only.

Key details:

When: 24 February 2011 to 4 March 2011 only (9 days total)
Where: Australian International Air Show at Avalon, Victoria
The rule being waived: Paragraph 155(1)(a) of the Civil Aviation Regulations — the prohibition on night acrobatic flight
