Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This temporary exemption allowed Australian-registered Cessna 525B (Citation CJ3) private jets over 5,700 kg to operate without the usual flight data recorder between 1 October 2011 and 30 September 2014, provided an approved cockpit voice recorder was installed.

It mattered because the regulator treated the CVR as an acceptable, lower-cost safety alternative to a full flight data recorder for these specific private operations during that period.
