Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this is: A temporary approval allowing one specific aircraft—a Cessna Citation jet (registration VH-VFP)—to operate without a digital flight data recorder (the "black box" that normally records technical flight data).

What it allows:

The aircraft can fly without an approved digital flight data recorder, exempting it from the usual requirement to carry this equipment.
Strict conditions apply:
- Private operations only—no commercial charter or passenger services for hire
- No flying training allowed in the aircraft
- Must still carry a working cockpit voice recorder (which records audio in the cockpit)
- Must comply with all other rules in Civil Aviation Order 20.18

Key limitation: This approval applies only to this specific aircraft (serial number 550-0882) and only for a limited time period in 2006. It is not a general exemption for other aircraft.
