Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This direction gives Alliance Airlines permission to use fewer cabin attendants than normally required on specific Fokker aircraft.

What it does:

Allows Alliance Airlines to operate 50-seat Fokker F27 Mark 050 aircraft (also known as Fokker 50s) with just one cabin attendant instead of the usual two.
Normally, aviation safety rules require one cabin attendant for every 36 passengers (meaning a 50-seat plane would need two crew members). This instrument overrides that standard rule for Alliance Airlines.

Who it affects:

Only Alliance Airlines Pty Ltd, when operating charter or regular passenger flights using these specific aircraft.

Safety conditions:

As a safeguard, Alliance Airlines cannot change its emergency procedures manual—including protocols for exits and able-bodied passengers—without written approval from CASA (the Civil Aviation Safety Authority).

Duration:

This was a time-limited exemption, automatically expiring after two years.
