Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This direction permits Tiger Airways Australia to operate specific Airbus A320 aircraft (those registered in Australia with a maximum of 180 seats) with 4 cabin attendants on board.

To ensure safety with this crew configuration, the airline must follow strict rules for passengers sitting in the over-wing emergency exit rows (the seats next to the middle emergency doors):

Only physically able-bodied passengers can sit in these rows
During take-off, landing, and emergency preparations, each exit row must be occupied by at least 2 able-bodied people
Passengers in these rows must receive a personal briefing on how to open the emergency exits and what to do next if an emergency occurs

This was a temporary approval that applied only to Tiger Airways and expired in November 2008.
