Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this does

This instrument gave a specific airline, Airnorth (legally operating as Capiteq Limited), special permission to fly particular Embraer 170 jets with only 2 cabin attendants (cabin crew) on board. Normally, aviation safety rules would require more crew for an aircraft with 78 passenger seats.

Who it affects

Only Airnorth, and only for their Australian-registered Embraer 170/100 aircraft configured for a maximum of 78 passengers.

The safety catch

The permission came with a strict condition: during take-off, landing, and any prepared emergencies, the two cabin attendants must be seated in specific crew seats—one next to the front door and one next to the back door (both of which serve as emergency exits).

Important limitation

This was a temporary approval only. It automatically expired on 30 September 2009.
