Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This instrument gives Bristow Helicopters Australia Pty Ltd special permission to use a shorter recording period for flight data on specific helicopters.

What it does Normally, flight data recorders (the "black boxes" that record flight information) must retain data for longer periods. This approval allows Bristow to operate their AS 332L Super Puma helicopters with systems that only keep the last 5 hours of flight data.

Who it applies to Only Bristow Helicopters Australia Pty Ltd (Aviation Reference Number 200267), and only for their Super Puma helicopters that have Integrated Health and Usage Monitoring Systems installed.

Requirements The company must:

Record this approval in its operations manual (the rulebook for how they run flights)
Continue following all other rules in Civil Aviation Order 20.18 (the main rules about flight recorders)

How long it lasted This was a temporary approval running from 1 July 2012 to 30 June 2015.
