116 Calculating the standard error for fire emissions
(1) When calculating the emissions for a newly fire affected stratum, the standard error is to be calculated using the following formula:
| | Equation 27a |
| = | standard error for weight of elemental carbon emitted from newly fire affected stratum as a result of the fire for reporting period , in tonnes of carbon (t). |
|---|---|
| = | standard error for mean plot carbon stock for plots within the original (superseded) stratum as reported in the previous reporting period in tonnes per hectare of CO2‑e (t.ha‑1 CO2‑e), calculated in accordance with Equation 11b. |
| = | (a) if a full inventory of the newly fire affected stratum has not been conducted—zero; and(b) otherwise—the standard error for mean plot carbon stock for plots within a newly fire affected stratum for the reporting period in tonnes per hectare of CO2‑e (t.ha‑1 CO2‑e), calculated in accordance with Equation 11b. |
| = | land area occupied by newly fire affected stratum at the end of the reporting period, in hectares (ha). |
(2) Where Image unavailable in extracted text is less than or equal to Image unavailable in extracted text, the standard errors for emissions of methane and nitrous oxide are taken to be zero.
(3) When calculating the amount of methane emitted from a fire‑affected stratum for a reporting period, if Image unavailable in extracted text is greater than Image unavailable in extracted text, the standard error is to be calculated using the following formula:
| | Equation 27b |
| = | standard error for the amount of methane (CH4) emitted from newly fire affected stratum for the reporting period, in tonnes of CO2‑e (t CO2‑e). |
|---|---|
| = | standard error for weight of elemental carbon emitted from newly fire affected stratum as a result of the fire for the reporting period in tonnes of carbon (t), calculated in accordance with Equation 27a. |
| = | the global warming potential for methane as stated in the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Regulations 2008. |
(4) When calculating the amount of nitrous oxide emitted from a fire‑affected stratum for the reporting period, if is greater than , the standard error is to be calculated using the following formula:
