115 Calculating emissions for a newly fire affected stratum
(1) This section applies to a newly fire affected stratum.
(2) The weight of elemental carbon released as a result of a fire event must:
(a) be calculated in accordance with Equation 26a; and
(b) incorporate a standard error calculation in accordance with Equation 27a.
(3) The weight of elemental carbon released as a result of a fire event in a stratum for a reporting period is to be calculated using the following formula:
| | Equation 26a |
| = | weight of elemental carbon emitted from newly fire affected stratum as a result of the fire for the reporting period, in tonnes of carbon (t). |
|---|---|
| = | mean plot carbon stock for plots within the original (superseded) stratum as reported in the previous reporting period, in tonnes per hectare of CO2‑e (t.ha‑1 CO2‑e), calculated in accordance with Equation 11a. |
| = | (a) if a full inventory of the newly fire affected stratum has not been conducted—zero; and(b) otherwise—the mean plot carbon stock for plots within newly fire affected stratum for the reporting period in tonnes per hectare of CO2‑e (t.ha‑1 CO2‑e), calculated in accordance with Equation 11a. |
| = | land area occupied by newly fire affected stratum at the end of reporting period , in hectares (ha). |
(4) If Image unavailable in extracted text is less than or equal to Image unavailable in extracted text for subsection (3), emissions of methane and nitrous oxide are taken to be zero.
(5) If Image unavailable in extracted text is greater than Image unavailable in extracted text, the amount of methane emitted from a fire‑affected stratum for a reporting period is to be calculated as follows:
| | Equation 26b |
| = | amount of CH4 emitted from newly fire affected stratum for the reporting period, in tonnes of CO2‑e (t CO2‑e). |
|---|---|
| = | weight of elemental carbon emitted from newly fire affected stratum as a result of the fire for the reporting period in tonnes of carbon (t), calculated in accordance with Equation 26a. |
| = | the global warming potential for methane as stated in the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Regulations 2008. |
