Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This instrument defines a "Kyoto Australian Carbon Credit Unit" (Kyoto ACCU): a carbon credit that comes from an eligible Kyoto project, has its reporting period end on or before the Kyoto abatement deadline, and is recorded as a Kyoto ACCU in the Australian National Registry of Emissions Units. It matters because only Kyoto ACCUs can satisfy Australia’s Kyoto Protocol obligations, ensuring internationally recognized, tradable emission reductions.
