What this does

These Regulations set the price that companies must pay for licences to manufacture ozone-depleting chemicals in Australia.

The fee amount

Manufacturers must pay 1.609 cents for every kilogram of "scheduled substances" they produce. (Scheduled substances are chemicals that damage the ozone layer, such as certain refrigerants and industrial gases.)

Who it affects

Any business manufacturing ozone-depleting substances in Australia under a licence issued by the government.

Why it matters

This fee helps implement Australia's international obligations to protect the ozone layer by controlling the production of harmful chemicals through a licensing and charging system.
