Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What it does

These regulations set the fee that businesses must pay when importing ozone-depleting chemicals (called scheduled substances) into Australia.

The key detail

The licence fee is fixed at 1.609 cents per kilogram of any scheduled substance imported.

Why it exists

This is part of Australia's system to protect the ozone layer. By charging a fee for import licences, the government:

Tracks who is bringing these harmful chemicals into the country
Creates a financial incentive to reduce use of ozone-depleting substances
Funds administration of the ozone protection scheme

Who it affects

Any company or person importing chemicals covered by the Ozone Protection Act (such as CFCs and halons) must pay this fee as part of their import licence.
