Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

These regulations set the specific dollar amounts for the cattle transaction levy — a mandatory charge paid when cattle are sold in Australia.

What it does:

Fixes the levy at $0.88 per head of cattle for standard sales transactions
Sets a lower rate of $0.19 per head for certain other categories of transactions (exact categories are defined in the parent Act)

Who it affects:

Cattle producers, livestock agents, and saleyards who must collect and pay these levies
The funds go to the Australian Meat and Live-stock Research and Development Corporation to pay for industry research and marketing

Why it matters: These rates determine how much money comes out of a farmer's pocket every time they sell cattle. The amounts were specifically recommended by the industry body itself to fund research that benefits the meat and livestock sector.
