Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

These regulations set a specific rate for calculating money owed on exported meat.

What it does The regulations fix the calculation rate at five-eighths (5/8) — or 62.5% — for working out certain charges or rebates on meat exports. This rate applies to different categories of meat as defined in the separate Meat Export Charge Regulations.

Who it affects Australian businesses that export meat and pay charges under the Meat Export Charge Collection Act 1973.

Why it matters This fraction determines the actual dollar amount exporters must pay to the government or can claim back. The regulations also confirm they take effect from 27 November 1973, applying the rate retrospectively to exports from that date even though the rules were made in 1975.
