Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this does: These regulations set the guaranteed minimum prices (called "base prices") that Australian dried fruit growers would receive for their produce during the 1972 season.

Who it affects: Grape growers in Australia's dried fruit regions (primarily the Murray Valley and Sunraysia areas) who produced currants, sultanas, and raisins.

The details: The regulation fixes specific prices per ton:

Currants: $317.96 per ton
Sultanas: $277.96 per ton
Raisins: $247.96 per ton

Why it matters: This was part of a government price stabilization scheme designed to protect farmers from market fluctuations. By law, these prices acted as a safety net—if market prices dropped below these levels, the stabilization scheme would ensure growers still received these minimum amounts for their crops.
