Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

These regulations ban highly combustible cellulose‑nitrate movie film from being used in cinematograph equipment on ships to prevent catastrophic fires and toxic smoke aboard vessels.

They make ship owners and masters (and agents for foreign ships in Australian ports) legally responsible, with breaches punishable by fines up to $200 — a serious deterrent in 1968.
