Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this is: A very short 1956 regulation made by the Governor-General (under the War Precautions Act Repeal Act) that formally cancels the Entry into the Commonwealth Regulations 1921.

What it does: It performs "legislative housekeeping" by repealing (removing from the law books) regulations that were originally created during World War I. The 1921 Regulations were made under wartime emergency powers to control who could enter Australia. By 1956, these rules were obsolete and were being cleaned up as part of post-war legal reforms.

Why it matters: This removal helped streamline Australia's immigration laws. The old 1921 rules were no longer needed because Australia had newer immigration legislation (the Migration Act was coming into force shortly after). This regulation simply tidies up the statute books by formally ending the 1921 restrictions.
