Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This legislation formally ends Australia's World War II rationing system. It simply repeals (cancels) the National Security (Rationing) Regulations—the emergency laws that had allowed the government to control the supply and distribution of food, fuel, clothing and other essentials during and immediately after the war.

What it means: By passing this instrument in 1950, the government handed control of shopping back to the free market. No new rules are created; this is purely a 'cleanup' law that deletes wartime emergency powers that were no longer needed.

Who it affects: Primarily merchants, wholesalers and consumers who were still operating under rationing restrictions—effectively freeing them to buy and sell goods without coupons or government permits.
